What is the Cabbage Soup Diet, Interestingly, no person or organization seems to want to claim responsibility for inventing the cabbage soup diet! So there isn't an "official" version, but various cabbage diet plans based around eating copious quantities of cabbage soup, and very little else. Claims made for the cabbage soup diet range from the ludicrous, ie. This recipe takes about 15 to 20 minutes to make. Place a pot over medium heat and pour some olive oil. Saute celery, onion, carrots, and green bell pepper. Once the carrot is tender, add the garlic and chicken broth. Add your cabbage and diced tomatoes. Bring the soup to a boil. Once the cabbages are tender, add seasonings: salt, pepper, oregano, and red pepper flakes.

The cabbage soup diet plan continues to be used partly because it gives you plenty of different things to eat and it's not some starvation plan. It's easy to stay full. However, the real reason the plan works is the foods you eat are sure to be such that you eat a low amount of calories and fats too. By severely limiting calorie intake, it's certain that you will drop weight at the end of the week. In fact, one Appetite study found that eating a bowl of low-calorie vegetable soup 15 minutes before a meal led people to eat 20 percent fewer calories total than their non-soup-eating counterparts. To incorporate soup into your diet in a way that’s healthy and sustainable, sip some broth-based, veggie-rich soups like minestrone or vegetable (read: not "cream of" anything).

While you may find success with this diet, you should consult a doctor before starting, as it is a fad diet and not generally supported by the medical community. The diet is believed to have been introduced in the 1950s, and its popularity has surged and ebbed since, with the diet often re-introduced with a new name, and falsely associated with various organizations, including the American Heart Association.

Start the day with a bowl of boiled brown rice and apple juice. A mid-morning snack can consist of half a cup of cabbage soup and some dry broccoli and water. You may have as much beef and vegetables as you want today, along with as much of the cabbage soup as you like. Stay away from starchy vegetables. Eat as much of the above as you wish. Do not let yourself get hungry. Eat with as much cabbage soup as you like.
