The only reason why these fad diets work is because of a caloric restriction. The reason why people think no-carb diets work is because they’re literally losing water weight (they lose glycogen stores that hold water)

You need to eat a variety of foods in order to stay healthy. When your body is in starvation mode, it begins to use muscle for energy, not fat. This may cause a drop on the scale, but it’s not good. Muscle burns more calories than fat and if you begin to lose muscle, then you’ll lower your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which is the rate at which your body burns calories just doing nothing. When you begin to eat a higher level of calories, your body is no longer prepared to handle it, and you will gain weight again.
